Illustrated biography of Raja Ravi Varma for kids to be out soonon Apr 13, 2021 A new illustrated biography for kids on the life and times of Raja Ravi Varma, who is known as the father of modern Indian art, is all set to hit the stands. Written by author Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan, the book will tell young readers about the artist who was a born royalty but he was called a 'Raja' for his creativity. The upcoming book is aptly titled 'Prince With A Paintbrush' and it is illustrated by Rayika Sen. Raja Ravi Varma is best known for giving Hindu Gods imagery which is so popular in our times today. He also started a lithographic press in India, the first in the country, which helped in making art affordable for people. When other kids were busy playing hopscotch with friends, seven-year-old Ravi Varma was painting on the walls of his house. Spotting his nephew’s artistic talent, his uncle Rajaraja Varma took him to the court of the Maharaja of Travancore to study and practice art. The rest, they say, is history, reads the book's blurb. Some of author Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan's previous books include 'A Pie Surprise and Other Stories', 'Indi-Alphabet', and 'How Many Lines in a Limerick?', among others. Published by Westland, 'Prince With A Paintbrush' will be released on April 19, 2021.
